2024 Tested Us, But God !!
Can You Believe It’s Already 2025?
January was just the other day, and here we are. Another year, 2024 gone. My mom always says, “The year didn’t just run; it flew!” And that’s how it feels.
Like a week ago, an extraordinary woman who has carved out a space for women to laugh, cry, and share their journeys in our community asked a profound question: What are you leaving behind as the year ends? The answers were diverse and interesting. Challenges, heartbreak, disappointments, some extra pounds, and so on.
Most of us are psyched to shut the door in 2024 by fire by force. Truth be told, I am also looking towards the new year, but not sooo fast, until we pause and take stock of what 2024 gave us. Please chill and read on.
Let’s be honest: 2024 wasn’t a smooth ride or a walk in the park. From the diaspora to the motherland spaces, we’ve all faced our fair share of heartbreaks, disappointments, and insane battles. Yet, here we are. Still standing. Still breathing. And for that, we remain grateful.
This year has tested our resilience, I tell you. We defied some bizarre type of odds. And even the ones that hit us? They didn’t take us out. Put your dance shoes on and dance to my fave song, ” Tiga niwe,” meaning if it were not for the Lord, my enemies would have finished me.
Isaiah 54:11 reminds us, “No weapon formed against you shall prosper.” Think about the weapons forged against you this year: the doors slammed in your face, the isolation meant to break you, the disappointments designed to discourage you. The sicknesses you endured, the financial hardships, the emotional floods that threatened to drown you, death and loss Yet, here you are—not because of your strength, but because you were helped.
( and, lol, some other ones that only you and God know)
Allow me to say that in 2024, despite everything that is happening and has happened, we have been MARVELOUSLY helped by God. God has been good even in our confusion and the mess we find ourselves in.
As 2024 ends, let’s give thanks—not only for material things, social standing, influence, or positive outcomes, but for God being our rock. Thank Him for the strength to withstand the storms, the growth that pain brought, and the capacity to resist and keep going. Expanding our ability to endure hardships and keep moving forward.
If things you wanted did not happen in 2024, it is not you’re unworthy. Keep believing. God provided what we needed, and that is what truly matters.
As we enter 2025, let’s carry this: “In everything, give thanks.” Praise Him, not because it’s easy, but “because he is worthy of our praise and he is God. “breathe deep. Thank Him for a moment for this year And the year to come.
Here’s to 2025—another year to be marvelously helped.
Your article really spoke to me. It felt personal, like you were having a conversation with me. Thank you for reminding us to pause and reflect before rushing into 2025. You’re right—2024 flew by so fast. One moment it was January, and now we’re here, looking at a brand-new year.
I loved the question you shared: “What are you leaving behind as the year ends?” It made me think deeply about my own journey this year. The challenges, the heartbreaks, and even the victories have shaped me in ways I didn’t expect. Your words made me realize how important it is to take stock and find meaning in everything we’ve been through.
Like you said, 2024 wasn’t easy. It really wasn’t a walk in the park for me either. There were moments when I felt like giving up. Heartbreaks, disappointments, and struggles came one after another. But, just as you said, I’m still standing. That’s something to be grateful for.
The verse you quoted, “No weapon formed against you shall prosper,” hit me hard. It made me reflect on all the battles I fought this year. Some were obvious, but others were private, just between me and God. And just like you said, I made it through, not because of my strength, but because He carried me.
Maggie, your reminder to give thanks even in the hard times really moved me. It’s easy to focus on what went wrong, but you’ve encouraged me to be grateful for the strength to endure. I will carry this spirit of gratitude into 2025. Thank you for sharing such an inspiring message.
Here’s to another year of being marvelously helped, just like you said. Thank you, Maggie, for always encouraging us.
Thank you for leaving this comment Kelvin. It truly means so much to me. I’m grateful the post spoke to you in such a personal way.
That verse has been a source of strength for me too, and it’s such a powerful assurance that we’re carried through even the toughest battles.
Praying 2025 brings you peace, joy, and even more reasons to give thanks.
