The Power Of Prayer
Discover the transformative power of prayer in life’s chaos. We explore how communion with God renews our strength and purpose through the power of prayer.
Lets dive in!
As we go through life, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed and lost in the chaos that surrounds us from time to time. I am saying this because I know what it is to be overwhelmed.
Let me be honest here. Life is hard. And yes, sometimes, we feel disconnected, overwhelmed, and lost. Sometimes, we can be shaken and feel like we have lost our bearing.
In this blog post, I want us to examine a simple practice that can bring us back to our center and offer grace and strength: prayer.
Prayer is not just a ritual; it’s a transformative experience where we connect with our Creator and lay all our cares and burdens at His feet, tapping into the power of prayer.
I grew up in a Christian home and was introduced to prayer at a very young age.
In fact, it did not matter whether we had a need or not; prayer was part of our life. But is prayer really just us talking to God all the time? (Story for another day.)
One of my favorite songs introduced to us was ‘Hingo Njega ya Kũhoya’, which translates to ‘Sweet hour of prayer’ in my ethnic language.
Allow me to paste the song’s words here, and please read them carefully. ( they are not my words)
Sweet hour of prayer
that calls me from a world of care,
and bids me at my Father’s throne
make all my wants and wishes known.
In seasons of distress and grief,
my soul has often found relief,
and oft escaped the tempter’s snare
by thy return, sweet hour of prayer!
Sweet hour of prayer! Sweet hour of prayer!
the joys I feel, the bliss I share
of those whose anxious spirits burn
with strong desires for thy return!
With such, I hasten to the place
where God my Savior shows his face,
and gladly take my station there,
and wait for thee, sweet hour of prayer!
Sweet hour of prayer! Sweet hour of prayer!
Thy wings shall my petition bear
to him whose truth and faithfulness
engage the waiting soul to bless.
And since he bids me seek his face,
believe his word, and trust his grace,
I’ll cast on him my every care,
and wait for thee, sweet hour of prayer!
I want us to look at prayer as a way of communing with our God in a way that goes above our understanding. Whether we are overwhelmed by our burdens and anxieties, expressing our gratitude, simply yearning to grow in God, or seeking peace, prayer opens an avenue for divine communication, and our hearts are relieved of their cares.
Why do we pray? A breakdown of the power of prayer
1. To show our gratitude
Prayer helps us express our thankfulness for everything God has done for us, including the intangible blessings that God has bestowed on our lives.
2. Connection
Prayer helps us connect with God. When we come, as the song says, we talk to God; and by the way talking to God is not one way. We also need to take time and hear from him. I must say that he speaks to all of us but in different ways. This gives us the assurance that we are never alone, and therefore we can do life confidently.
3. Guidance
Through our earnest prayers in our times of difficulty, prayer is our outlet. As we call out to him and empty our hearts of their cares, he offers guidance, and we align with God’s will.
4. Healing
As we empty ourselves to God in prayer, we relieve the stress that comes with the winds of life and emotions that could profoundly impact our lives. As we let God and let go, as we empty these stresses by telling it to God, it becomes a type of therapy, and we reduce our stress. This is the power of prayer.
