Dr Koi-Lucie Abbott

Meet Dr Koi-lucie Abbott, Founder And CEO Of Optima Afya Clinic

Dr. Koi was born and raised in Kenya, where she witnessed firsthand the devastating struggles people experience without proper medical care. When she graduated with her MSN FNP in 2021, she dreamt of providing accessible care to all, so she set out to make her dream a reality. And in 2024, armed with her DNP FNP, she achieved just that by launching her clinic. Optima Afya Clinic.

Dr Koi-lucie Abbott

The clinic’s mantra is “The greatest wealth is health, and great health is above all wealth; one who has health got wealth.”

Abbott embodies the values of a “diaspora boss,” a term used to honor individuals who have left their home country but continue to contribute to their community’s growth and development.

‘Afya’ is a Swahili word for health from one of her native languages. ‘Optima’ represents the clinic’s commitment to optimal health for all.

What stands out about this clinic is who they intend to serve.

Driven by her altruistic nature, Dr. Koi’s mission is to provide quality and affordable care to all, with a special focus on patients facing care barriers. This includes patients facing challenges like language barriers and lack of insurance, those who are underinsured, and many immigrants who are undocumented and would instead not seek care. Her clinic hopes to bridge this gap and help these patients access quality care. Additionally, Dr. Koi leverages her background to understand and cater to the needs of patients who might not be aware they require medical attention.

 The clinic offers services like:

  • Preventative care such as flu immunization
  • Wellness programs
  • Chronic disease management, such as diabetes management
  • Weight loss support
  • School and immigration physicals
  • Mental health services

Dr Koi envisions her clinic as more than just a place for healthcare; she see it as a community partner. she hopes to build strong partnerships with local groups and other doctors to help meet the different needs of the people.

This type of clinic is needed in the community, especially given the rise of mental health issues. It will be a haven for those who may not seek care while they desperately need it.

It is a great blessing to have this addition to our community.

Optima Afya Clinic, we wish you well.Related: Meet The Newly Elected Gwitu Ceo, Mary Waceke
