Your Story Is Your Power and Competitive Edge. Own It.
Your story is your power. It defines you, sets you apart, and gives you strength. It’s the foundation of everything you’ve achieved and will continue to achieve.
Where are all my girls who can milk a cow, start a fire with wet firewood, care for loved ones, and still hold their own in a debate?
Girls who heal, build, and overcome. Some are young, and others are older, but you will always find them carrying others on their shoulders.
Shout out to Gen Z’s, my good ole timers, and the baby boomers—this is your girl, Maggie!
Let’s celebrate ourselves and, more so, the village girls who are more than what we have been told.
“Girls in rural areas are dusty, limited in everything, and they are only good for traditional chores such as housework and farming.” Shidwe! (A Kikuyu slang translating to the devil is a liar.)
These girls are intelligent and ambitious. Away with that foolishness this year.
Regardless of how muddy or dusty the road to your home is, Your Story Is Your Power. and you are capable.
I know you’re wondering why I’m sharing this with you.
Give me a minute, and I’ll explain.
After a long day at school, I would make my way home, passing by my grandmother’s house in the village just a minute’s walk from ours. The anticipation of her delicious homemade meals, warmth, and funny stories always made this short journey the highlight of my day. She was such a vibe!
I started this magazine to empower women through storytelling and faith.

Our stories—messy parts and all—matter right now because somewhere out there, another woman is living through her own chapter, wondering if she’s the only one.
This space is for the woman who has been afraid, doubted herself, or been told she’s not enough.
For the ones who’ve been told their dreams are too big or their voice doesn’t matter—this is our space. A space where your story matters, my story matters, and our collective voices come together because your story is your power.
But the problem was that I felt like my village stories, with all their unique simplicity and wisdom, were not enough. Compared to my cousin’s stories from the city, they would be more interesting and fun. (Story for another day.)
I was trying to do life as someone else, trying to fit into their story and denying myself the opportunity to live in my truth.
I quickly realized it was not going to work. It’s exhausting to try to be someone you’re not. The power wasn’t in the stories, but recognizing their story would never be mine and vice versa, I had to own mine.
It felt natural when I began with my village stories; there was no forcing, which gave me a solid place to start.
You have to begin with what is known before going into the unknown. For me it was the same stories that I once despised. Copying someone else’s story is hard and will only frustrate you, but when you embrace your own, everything flows, and you naturally attract your tribe.
I purposed to lean into my village stories—the simplicity, wisdom, and resilience I learned from my parents, grandmother, and community.
In telling those stories, I found my authentic voice, strength, and identity rooted in the dusty roads I grew up on. To deny them would be to walk away from the power that comes from embracing what truly shaped me and who I am.

Your Story Is Your Power. Own It.
Why am I telling you this?
In a world driven by social media expectations of brands to fit certain molds, we often feel pressured to conform and look or sound a certain way to match an image of success society has built.
The reality is that this pressure only works against your true potential. While there’s nothing inherently wrong with wanting to achieve or conform, the competitive edge, the real strength you have, lies in embracing your uniqueness.
I am not saying it’s a sin. But your competitive edge or advantage will only be found when you embrace YOU and your unique voice in embracing your strengths, quirks, and experiences.
Do not look outside. Dig deep within, and you will discover what sets you apart.
It is not your website or logo; Your Story Is Your Power. will do it. Your story is your power. The sooner you start being you, the sooner you attract your TRIBE.
Will you be our next feature story?
We would love to hear about your journey, your challenges, and your triumphs. Because in the end, Your Story Is Your Power, and when you own it, you own your future.
