Feeling Discouraged? Remember Your Past Victories
What should you do when feeling discouraged? Today’s blog post gives you a couple of tips to help you cope during tough times.
It’s easy to dwell on what went wrong when things don’t go as planned. I’ll admit that I’ve fallen into that trap myself.
For example, a few months ago, I was anticipating something I had been trusting God for. But when it didn’t happen on schedule, I felt discouraged. However, once I understood that focusing on what didn’t happen wouldn’t do any good, I shifted my focus to what God had done in the past.
Can you relate?
Perhaps you’ve faced a setback in your personal or professional journey and now find yourself feeling disheartened.
Here’s the reality:
Focusing on your disappointments only keeps you trapped in a negative cycle. This realization inspired me to share how you can overcome feelings of discouragement when things don’t go as planned.
Read on to discover ways to keep your hope alive, even when God’s timing doesn’t match your own.
How to Stop Feeling Discouraged
One effective strategy during discouraging times is to reflect on your past victories—those moments when you triumphed over challenges and achieved success.
This week, make it a habit to remember your past achievements, especially while waiting on God for something important.
Grab a pen and paper and jot down your past triumphs. Be deliberate, and don’t overlook even the smallest victories.
When you concentrate on what God has accomplished in your life before, you’ll notice a shift in your energy. Your faith will begin to swell within you, empowering you to patiently await what you’re trusting Him for.
Encouragement When things Are not Going as Expected
This week, my encouragement to you is to shift your focus away from what hasn’t happened. Stop ruminating on missed opportunities and past disappointments. Instead, remember what God has done for you previously.
If He has done it before, you can rest assured He is the same God who will do it again.
Feeling Discouraged Bible Verses
One of the things I love about the Bible is that it provides encouragement for every challenge in life. If you’re wondering how to cope when feeling discouraged, these verses can offer you solace:
“But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.” — Isaiah 41:31
“He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.” — Psalms 147:3
“Cast your burden on the Lord, and he will sustain you; he will never permit the righteous to be moved.” — Psalms 55:22
“Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” — Isaiah 41:10
- “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” — Matthew 11:28
